Bratach Croise Deirge

This Red Cross flag was used by the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) at Portobello Barracks, Dublin, in 1916. It was donated to the National Museum in 1939 by Mr. James Geoghan who had served with the RAMC. Geoghan also gave evidence when Captain John Bowen-Colthurst was trialled. In April 1916, Colthurst had served in Portobello Barracks and ordered the execution of Irish socialist and feminist Francis Sheehy Skeffington as well as two other civilians.
