This Lee Enfield Rifle was used by a member of the Constabulary during the attack on Dublin Castle. The barrel of the rifle was dented by a bullet of an Irish Volunteer’s rifle. During the Easter Rising, the British Army used Lee Enfield rifles, which had a 10-round magazine and could fire 15 bullets a minute. The rebels used Mauser rifles. An experienced person could only fire 5 bullets a minute with a Mauser rifle, as it had to be reloaded after every shot. You can see and lift a Lee Enfield Rifle in the Soldiers & Chiefs exhibition. Lee Enfield rifles were also used by the British Army in World War One.
